Qingdao opens second metro line

THE Chinese city of Qingdao opened its second metro line on December 10, with the start of trial passenger operation on the 20.4km Licun Gongyuan - Zhiquanlu section of the north-south Line 2.

The initial section serves 18 stations, including interchanges with Line 3 at Licun in the north and Wushi Guangchang in the south. Ridership is forecast to be around 210,000 passengers per day.

When all phases are complete, Line 2 will run for 59km from Lianhuapo to Shiyuan Huizhan.
