TEL AVIV NTA’s tenders committee announced on October 1 that it has selected Alstom as preferred bidder for a Shekels 390m ($US 110m) contract to supply signalling and train control systems for the light rail Red Line.

A second supplier, Ansaldo STS, also submitted a bid at the best and final offer stage which was delcared eligible.

The 24km line will link Tel Aviv's mainline station in Petah Tikva with Bnei Brak, Jaffa, and Bat Yam with 34 stations, 10 of them underground. Commissioning is scheduled for 2021.
